The Central Board of Secondary Education, commonly known as CBSE, is a national level education board that looks into the primary and high school education system for thousands of affiliated schools.
It is popularly known for conducting the yearly Board Examinations for classes 10 and 12, which holds significant importance for the profile of every student. For all the subjects, CBSE aides its students with sample papers which are extremely relevant and helpful.
CBSE is set to conduct the board examination for the year 2020. It has also started releasing the sample papers for several subjects. Recently, CBSE has released the sample paper for class 10 Social Science exam along with the marking scheme.
Students who will be appearing for this exam should definitely take a look at these sample papers to understand the different changes that have been brought about in the paper and also to acquaint themselves with the type of questions they will be facing during the exams.
Owing to a number of changes that CBSE is introducing for the upcoming examinations, referring to the sample papers is a must. Not only had it announced major changes in examination pattern for the maths exam, but also revealed some changes in the general pattern such as –
- Less subjective questions
- Practical work in all papers (class 12)
- More objective questions etc.
The reason for these changes was that CBSE wanted to make the exams more student-friendly and encourage detailed study at the same time.

For class 10 Social Science Exam, the structure of the paper must be noted to understand the changes. The class 10 Social Science question paper will be divided into three parts – Section A, Section B and Section C.
Each section can be understood as follows –
- Section A: This is the first section of the paper that will comprise of the first 20 questions. The section will hold 20 marks. The questions will be of an objective type such as –
- Match the columns
- Very short answers
- Multiple-choice questions
- Fill in the blanks
- Pictures based questions
- Section B: This 24 marks section will comprise of very short answers. There will be 8 such questions, each of which will hold 3 marks.
- Section C: This section entails 6 questions for 5 marks each. For this, students will be expected to write long answers. This section will also include questions for map pointing. Map pointing will be for both History and Geography for a total of 6 marks (2 marks for History and 4 marks for Geography).
Students will also be given internal choices from all the three sections for their convenience.
By referring to the sample paper, students can easily excel in the exams. All they need is some dedication and diligence in their preparation.
