Now that most results have come, let me first congratulate the ones who have got their dream converts.
Now I want to address two questions through this post.
1.) For people like Aks, who are undecided about which college to join:
Instead of taking particular cases on 1-1 basis (for which I am anyways just a call away) let me just give my opinion on the case itself.
Please don't go by perceptions like college P is good for Marketing/Finance/HR etc, or College Q will leave no time to pursue your interests/hobbies, or College R has an awesome culture which College S doesn't, or College T has published average placement figure of ab.cd lakhs and xy international placements.
Try to talk to people who are reading/have read from the respective college and don't take what they say on face value, talk to others from the same college, see what are the things that match, check them against what are the most important and relevant criteria for you, and then make your choice.
Take advice from your friends, family, colleagues and cues from rankings, websites etc but finally do what 'you' decide is right for you.
2.) For people who haven't been able to get admission into any of their dream colleges.
Many a people have often pointed out that MBA is a means and not an end, and as doc and many others have proved in the past, a percentile or an interview reject need-not be a true judge of your potential.
The question still remains, should you join a college you aren't keen on joining, should you appear in CAT again, should you pursue another career choice !!!
Many people would suggest you many different things, some would ask you to be practical and not lose another year pursuing something that might not even be that useful for your career they would perhaps give you examples of guys like vipul tyagi, gnrs or raghav sir; some others might ask you to chase your dreams, to never compromise to give it one more try and say that in the end it will be worth it with examples of guys like Prem Ravi, the hate.
But in my opinion, it's you and you alone who can best judge your position and your aspirations, so it's you and you alone who can decide what is best for you and even if it doesn't turn out to be the best, you will know that this is what you chose.
But for now, the next CAT is still sometime away, don't be hasty and say that this was your last attempt at MBA, have a break for some days, sit back and then calmly decide what is it that you want to do hereon, given that you can't really go on to change the past.
Remember a very useful rule of finance: sunk cost is always zero, no point in bothering too much about it, let's just see what we can make of our present and future.
Cheerios,
Ranjeet
