i am currently in first year of MBA.intending to take finance as major next year.I am thinking of giving CFA june2012.
1)what is the last date of registration.???
2)Is coaching needed??

3)where to get study material??
4)Is the study material supplied by CFA inst. enough.and i want print one.
So will there be any extra charges in custom as it needs to be shipped from USA.
5) Is there any payment mode other than credit card?

Are you sure that there is center for CFA in India. Because I tried so many times to found the center in India but I couldnt get. If you have register for CFA then can you please explain the procedure and the mode of payment other then credit card....

india is always added at the last moment due to some tussle between cfa and icfai.. so dont worry add colombo as ur testing center, later change it to india.

i am myself a candidate of cfa june 2012 level . i will try to answer your queries.
1.) yes, 8 months time i sufficient for CFA level 1. approx 200-250 hrs of study is required for level 1. i am doing MBA and life is equally hectic compared to a job. so we are on the same boat.

2.)will reply to this by tomorrow.

3.) u should get schweser notes and the notes sent by cfa institute after paying the fees.

4.) hard work and grasping of concepts.

5.) no coaching is required. self study would suffice.

I was wondering that whether its possible to prepare for the CFA level 1 in 2 months,that too when you are working full time,that would leave at most 2 -3 hrs per day for studying.So that would be like 2.5 * 60 = 150 hrs of preparation.Keeping in mind that I am a software engineer working in an IT company having no finance or economics background whatsoever.
What do u think, should I make an attempt in december this year??

it depends on aptitude level of each individual. some may crack it with 150 hrs of study.
but according to me you must wait till june 2012 , as it is an expensive process and you would not want to spend this much amount again if god forbid you fail in dec level-1.

as my course is very much related to MBA finance i am nt so much interested in going for CAT this year atleast
I am planning to start from September will doing CFA without any previous work ex be a good decision

totally.
u can do cfa level 1 without any prior work ex. but you will not get any job based only on CFA level 1, atleast you must be CFA level-2 to get a job.
