Hi All.....

I am planning to give CAT second time. But I am very confused at this moment.I am not sure if I should go for CAT or GMAT. Following are my acadmic details,
10th- 74%(UP board)
12th- 80%(UP board)
College- BIT Mesra Ranchi(BE-ECE) 71.9% / 6.59 CGPA 2K8 passout
Work ex - 3.5 years approx (Aricent)

Now I feel like dying while working in IT sector so too deperate to change the carrier stream.Please suugest what is the best option for me.

There is absolutely no reason to lose heart. My story is pretty similar to urs. Im going to give my first CAT at 26 after being fed up of jumping IT jobs. I would suggest you to write as many exams as possible...like XAT, MAT, GMAT, CAT....Stay positive ATB

I have got 96.4 for CAT11, but didn't get even one call. I guess my 12th marks(85. took a heavy toll. My acads are as below:
10th : 95.4
12th : 85.8
gpa, NITC : 8.19

How risky is it for me to try for CAT again. The biggest doubt is about the weightage they give for 10th and 12th. I don't want this doubt to be in my mind after I finally decide to try for CAT again

trust me u have decent acads.. a friend of mine had about 60% in tenth, inter and a horrendous GPA in Btec....97.5% got him thru to Nirma which is a decent univ and recently he got placed in a very good comp for a very good sal......so dont worry just focus on ur preparations!! You will sail thru provided u secure a good percentile. ATB

U can ignore the correspondence material if u want to.
But go through Arun sharma and Nishit Sinha books . They are 100% necessary.
Also, try to give some mock tests from TIME and CL. they will give you the extra edge before the actual exam....

If u get above 99% then u will surely get IIM call, but IIMA,B,C will be tough for you.
My suggestion wd be -dont think of IIM's right from now, focus on CAT score and making it to the IIM's will be easy once u get a good CAT score..........

If u get above 99% then u will surely get IIM call, but IIMA,B,C will be tough for you.
My suggestion wd be -dont think of IIM's right from now, focus on CAT score and making it to the IIM's will be easy once u get a good CAT score..........

welcome to PG.
Being an old member of PG, I can say that IIm's dont select people based on 10th and 12th grade marks only. The CAT score matters the most.
But it has been observed statistically that people with good 10th and 12th marks tend to be good managers. So they have to give some weight to +2 marks as well.

But dont worry about that. If you can secure 98.xx% in CAT, u can secure a berth in one of the IIM's irrespective of your marks.

I am working in Infosys and have work exp of more than 2 years.
Below are my 3 attempts on CAT:

CAT08 : 83.xx (with no preparation at all)
CAT10 : 83.xx (with no preparation at all)
CAT11 : 84.65 (Prepared well)

I had really worked hard last year, and expected 95+, but was very depressed to see the score.

I am looking for CAT2012 and really want to get a good score and get into TOP20 B-School of India.

Anyone from Pune, can you please suggest some good mentor/tutor for improving my VA, as I am weak in this.

So, after scoring 96%ile in CAT '10 and then 92%ile in CAT '11, I guess it'll be atleast another year before I get an IIM call. Anyways, I have decided to take TF online MBA pack. It's originally priced at 6k which includes all the theory, sectional tests and mocks. I however got it for 2.8k as I availed the discount they offer according to the %ile you score. Started my prep for CAT '12 on 19th Jan. So, 9 months to go and a lot to do.

P.S- I am also planning to take the CL Sectional tests package and mocks (Which I found the best) which start on Feb 20th.
I may also take the IMS simcats which start in June as their VA is pretty good.

Won't be taking TIME mocks as the Quant level is way above that is needed and VA is pretty sub-par.

Have mucked up my CAT score big time!!! Below are my details:

10th - 88.66%
12th - 78.33%
B.Tech - 7.4 CGPA
CAT 2011 - 76.XX
Work-ex : 40months (as on 31st Dec)

I had expected 95+.I know this is very very sad performance, but still do I stand in with a chance to get into any of the top 20 b-schools with this kind of a score?

I was desperate,and still am,to take admission this year. Would TAPMI make sense with a work-ex of 40+ months??

Please advice. I am extremely disappointed and extremely confused.

Have not started the preparation as I am still in a dilemma. I stay in BBSR which does not have good Coaching Institutes. I am a native of Kolkata and it has fantastic ones( CL,TIME, BYJU). I have to come down every wekkedn in order to attend the classes in Kolkata.

I strongly believe you should join TCC. Because
1) They have weekend batch.
2) They provide complete personal guidance
3) They start from basic but their coverage is the best
4) They give Plan of action to each student individually.
5) All doubts will be taken care personally.

I did my preparation for CAT this year at TCC. Though my quant is weak , I got 3 calls from IIM. Now I am preparing for Gd/ pi at TCC:D
