Hi guys, I will be joining FPM Economics at IIM Cal. What is the average package which one can expect from a research based job in corporate sector after completing FPM Economics.

It is difficult to get specific data for the same primarily because the number of datapoints is very low since most FPs opt for academics. Moreover it varies from person to person and is dependent on one`s profile, relevant work experience, etc. It`s better to get in touch with IIMC seniors for more clarity. Btw there are quite a few FP from C who made it to reputed consulting firms and the pay pack is more or less similar to pgp guys or may be a bit higher but again that is based on one`s profile.

Ok this might be off topic but a while back there was some discussion in this thread on ranking the doctoral programs of b-schools or even come up with a research rank. I was just going through the FT global mba rankings and stumbled (right at the bottom of the page) on the doctoral rank and research rank (64 and 94 respectively) for IIMA (btw ISB has a research rank of 75) and there`s a list of journals which FT considers while coming up with the research rank. But still couldn`t find any consolidated rankings for phd/fpm for all indian b schools.

Hello Friends.. Any comments on quality of Ph.D programme in management from BITS-Pilani ?. Went through their website, however could not see much details related to management in Ph.D. Also, no particular link for existing areas of research.. The brand-name is good but not sure of the management stream of BITS.. Would like to know comments and thoughts from you all.. Thanks

I read the following in English newspaper:

"Do keep in mind though that for securing teaching positions in universities and colleges, UGC mandates that you have a PhD, while a private B-School and even the IIMs will readily appoint both an FPM and a PhD."

Is it true that with an FPM from IIM we are not eligible to apply for teaching positions in government universities and colleges ????

How frequently do IIMs revises their stipends as I have seen some articles stating that IIM C used to pay just Rs 10,000 as stipend during 2008-2009.

Hello Friends.. I am regularly following this thread and its been a great experience so far related to finding answer to fpm queries and on sharing useful resources for fpm and related preparation. I have a query related to applying to SJMSOM for Spring season. (Since, i could not locate any new thread for this, so i am posting it here) ..

I am an MBA graduate in IT Business Management and have around 6 years of work-experience in an IT Major. To apply to SJMSOM (For Information Systems), do i need to appear for any entrance exam like CAT/GMAT, etc. I believe they have their own entrance exam and interview. I went through their brochure but could not get a proper answer..

Also, any comments on quality of Ph.D in Information Systems from SJMSOM will be highly appreciated.. Eagerly waiting for reply.. Thanks

Please let me know how good is MDI for FPM? I had applied to IIML and MDI; got rejected by IIML but was able to convert MDI. I have a very good UGC- JRF score. I know FPM at MDI is 13 years old but is it really good? I am an MBA with good academic record and have 5 years of experience (currently working in an IT company). Should I give this a miss and try for IIMs next year?

IIM Indore FPM results are announced ... I have yet another rejection ... I am convinced now that it is almost impossible to convince the profs at IIMs that I am the right person with the right mind set for the PhD level program ... the results of selected candidates is on their web site at ...

All the best to everyone starting their PhD/FPM this year (and to those awaiting results). PhD is exciting, but confusing as well. You are on your own and don't know what to do. Even after a year into the PhD program, I don't know what I want to do (in thesis, career and life). I think this paper is a very good guide on how to utilize your time during PhD.
