Things are what you make out of it...irrespective of whichever instii you go..a company may take you initially impressed by which instii u r from, will actually require work from us.
& Moreover, 'I' does need people to do things for it as of no...

I think you can very well go ahead and write ALCHEMIST PART II...
that's some stiff opposition u have got out there and u r not even budging... thats nice...
But what r ur dreams for ur future suppose u get into IIM A next year... ???? just reply if u intend to share ur drea...
Hey Girish ,
Lemme tell you that I understand where you are coming from man . Each and every one of us has certain goals or dreams that we hope to achieve at some point in life . If we are faced with a situation requiring us to make a compromise , some of us take the realistic route and compr...
Hey Girish...
a very good discussion going on here.
I dont want to change your mind. But lemme add my perspective too.
To start with, When i wrote engineering entrance test my eyes were just on top 2-3 engg. colleges in ap viz. RECW, JNTUH et al. I got state first rank but due to some s...
oops..I kinda feared this...I reiterate I did not get any IIM calls/admits this time...I said this is what I would have done if put in such a predicament...the discussion veered away from Ashilles who strangely enough is still silent on this issue which was started for him in the first place!
thought provoking thread here.
hey girish, firstly congrats on getting into IIM-I. secondly, it seems to me that u r thinly bordering the line between "improvement" and "neurotic" ( in an allymcbeal kinda way,so no offense).
Personally, ive always seen MBA's as a means to an end so ive bee...
Nah...my parents gave carte blanche to me ..the decision was purely mine. so no guinea pigs either .:) I have always been a err.."bit independent" type from young with respect to decisions affecting only me...well ofcourse I cannot prognosticate and say how things will be 2 yrs down the line..but...
Well when you were 17, I dont think you took the decision all by yourself. Im pretty sure your parents had some say there. What abt now ? And how is it that you can say boldly that you wont change, say 2 years from now.. or anytime.. You got a job. so obv you'll get the feel of the Industry. Then...
That's precisely what I have been saying all along Anil. I took up "SRMEC" because it was "there". And I have regretted that decision ever since. Don't wanna repeat it again. Don't you think there is a lot of diff when one is 17 and when one is 25? ofcourse you might say 2 yrs down the line I mig...
Isnt this an "oxymoron" (;-)) .. you took up SRMEC cos it was there. or am I missing something ??
Well maybe...but wouldn't it be foolish to open the door when it is not actually you want to do?
Taking something just because it is "there" is not the way I lead my life....
My $ 0.02 is hidden in the qoute below:
Opportunity knocks only ONCE on the door, but misfortune keeps knocking UNTIL you open the door.
Well the reason I have desisted from posting more in this thread is not that I have nothing to say but the fact that what I am going to say will not make sense and will not be germane to the issue at hand. I think I have made my point in my previous posts. such a decision has to be purely subject...
Gosh! LOL... have fun...
I'll take the liberty of assuming tht this post referred to me
LOL
honestly guys, me feeling happy that sanity is returning to this site, and rational thoughts prevail..
cheers

Actually, thinking more abt it, it depends on the passion you have towards institutes (absolutely nothing wrong it it), and more on the age-factor. If one is really young, in the sense, just out of the college, final year in the college etc, one always have the option of taking it the second time...
hi oxymoron,
U are very correct in yr stand... u are just 21, u can definitely try for the best next yr, u have nothing to lose, However, if u take this risk, u need to be prepared if (God forbid) u dont make it to any IIM next yr... for watever reason, u shud be able to handle it....tell me,...
Girish,
Thats a very bad way of putting it. If you had a view point - then you should try to explain as much as you can. Sure you may end up changing our viewpoints or atleast all of us can get a better view.
Egomanical, kidding, deranged - are not aimed at a person. If you understand that...
Actually lets leave it at this...it is a very contentious issue and will involve lots of explanations and counter explanations...something which I am not willing to go into now...well everyone has a reason for doing a MBA and I have mine...without knowing the full background *if* you jump to conc...
may be i m digressing from the main topic but plz ........
now i m person with final fms this year and in a dilema whether i shud go for cat next year. my apprehensions abt fms is abt infra and hostel life

Hmm... nice discussion going on.. and how come I can miss? :)
Have you folks read abt the IITians, and what makes them good? The reasoning is "If you put 2000 of some of India's brighest kids and make them study together for 2 years, the product is going to be good, anyday."
Now, why do ...

Hi,
In someways i understand what you mean when you say you were a misfit in your college...but then you are talking about SRMEC and IITS...the difference is bound to be there and it must have been HUGE...
But comeon, here we are talking about IIM-I/K and IIMABC...
On one hand you say One...
We dont have any of our junta in IIML - so info is hard to come by. That will change next year as we have many of our people going to IIML this year. International placements are dependent on various factors including work ex , CGPA and other issues. The max international as far as I know happens...
And can you tell me a good reason a fresher would have for joining even IIMA? nopes...if he is honest with himself he wouldn't. and why is the fact that I am not a "perfect fit" a good enough reason? Seems perfect to me.
I have got a call from IIML but I am contemplating whether to join or not because, for me two crucial criteria are placements abroad and the student exchange programmes. I have not been able to find much on either the IIML's website or offer letter or even in the brochure that would suggest that ...
Fair enough. College days. But at this point do you really have a reason to not go for IIMK- IIMI for any reason other than you may not be a 'perfect fit' ?
Nah nah...not so fast Allwin..it's not merely "rueing" over one's past...I took a decision then which I wasn't exactly comfortable with. and was a total misfit in the college. Yes maybe I have got only myself to blame for it. On the other hand maybe not. I am ready to let go of certain issues in ...
I have really seen at many times people axing their own foot. Usually the are the ones who tend to make statements like the ones above. If 10 years down the line you are going to rue that you graduated out of IIM I/K - I seriously wonder if you ever 'let go' of issues in life.
Even today you...
Mmm..Mohit it's not the question of only ego...my point is if one is confident abt oneself what's wrong in giving it another shot? this is not a "do or die" situation....I don't see the how the decision is impractical too...why lower the personal standards one sets for himself/herself?
Ofcours...

Hi All,
since we have shared the learnings of JEE and even that of an IIT Grad lets have one more analogy that i think is quiet appropriate....
First, lets get the assumptions right..IITS and IIMS are different in what they teach But enjoy EQUAL Reputation....
IIT B,D,KGP,KNP,Chennai ====...
Let me give u a different view to this topic all together...
Me got ranked in JEE '98 but a very bad one, decided to join the best local engg coll and take on JEE the next yr. Well cracked JEE '99 and went to IIT M B.Tech Chemical engg.
Now, some gyan... ...
Wow, Girish !
I really can feel the same thing.
Why do you havta go for smbthin when you know you really deserve better?
When you are confident enuf to fight it out again n claim ur riteful place.
I dont have anythin against L, I or K but i do feel i must try again.
Fyi, I got al...
okies _nil_ here is my take on this...I don't know personally Ashilles a.k.a Ashwin ofcourse..never chatted with him as well..so have absolutely no idea what kind of guy he is..but be that as it may *if* I had been in his position I wouldn't have taken IIMI..infact wouldn't have taken IIMK and I...
Hi Girish
Did you say, you can understand? hmmm... I dunno how you do it. Must be a terrific mind reader, typescript reader
A whole lot of people that I have met and known are never able to make out why they want to do an MBA. I am not talking about exceptions tho. From the many things t...
